I suppose it has something to do with a coral reef?

It's a raised land barrier, like a mountain range. I'm having trouble finding a postable reference, as the ones I want to use are restricted access. Relief is used in the sense it is in art, where it means something raised up from a surface, and the barrier is not so much to passage, but to blocking the flow of weather.
