Will an MP4 player play mp3s? Is it just the "next generation" of mp3 player?

As I understand it an .mp3 file is an audio file, .mp4 files can be (are usually) video and audio. So an mp4 player can play video too. So yes, it should be able to play .mp3 files. I wouldn't say it is the next generation as such, but it must have a screen.
