After he left the Army James Hendrix played under the name Jimmy James. In 1964 Hendrix moved to New York City and formed his own band, Jimmy James and the Blue Flames, which mostly played Jimmy Reed, Memphis Slim, Muddy Waters, and Robert Johnson covers.

I don't think Solo is the correct word. But his first band he ever had was back in high school with Billy Cox and other musicians. But he played with mulitple bands, the isley brothers, little richard but i think you're talking about Jimmy James and the Blue Flames.

His first band was The Velvetones. He then joined The Rocking Kings and Jimmy James and the Blue Flames before leading the Jimi Hendrix Experience.
