Very open ended question and could be answered a number of ways.
Probably the most noted incident of a celebrity entering their own look-a-like contest was that of Charlie Chaplin, who failed to make the last round.

I used to play people an Elvis record and another one (have to dig it out to see who it was - can't remember). Everyone thought the Elvis was the rather poor imitation. (These are 78s - from the days when Elvis was Elvis. The other feller was even more Elvis....)
