The lyric "Sweets for my sweet, sugar for my honey" is from the song "Sweets for my Sweet" written by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman.

"(It) was originally recorded by The Drifters and released in 1961....In 1963 it became the debut single A-side by Merseybeat band The Searchers. It made number one on the UK charts in the summer of that year and held that position for 2 weeks....It was later covered by Neil Diamond in 1993 and later by C.J. Lewis in 1994, the latter reaching #3 on the UK Singles Chart."
