An average adult male is made up of 40–50% of skeletal muscle and an average adult female is made up of 30–40% as a percentage of body mass

This is just the amount of Skeletal muscle though, there is still Smooth and Cardiac muscles to be counted.

An average male (70 kg) will have 30 kg of muscle mass.

Of course muscle mass as a proportion of body mass can be highly variable on an individual by individual basis depending on their diet, physical activity, genetic predispositions and many other factors.
