On Oct 26, 1881, Fred White was still dead, having been shot accidentally the previous year by "Curly" Bill Brocious.

Behan was the Sheriff of Cochise County, which includes Tombstone, but Tombstone (along with many Old West towns and cities) had its own marshal who would act in a policing capacity within town or city limits. Behan would be responsible for all the land between towns as well, whereas the City Marshal was concerned only with his own town/city.
Tombstone's official "town marshal" became a "city marshal" when the town became incorporated as a city in January 1881.

There was also a Federal U.S. Marshal for the entire Arizona territory, Crawley P Dake. He appointed Deputy U.S. Marshals throughout the territory who would serve on a more local level, representing the U.S. government. Their jurisdiction often overlapped (in some cases causing much friction) with County Sheriffs and Town/City Marshals. Sheriffs and town/city marshals also had the authority to deputize citizens to help them when trouble arose. Such was the case on Oct. 26, 1881.

And the name of the marshal of Tombstone on Oct 26, 1881 was _______________.
:-)

Gunfight at the O.K. Corral
Date October 26, 1881

Tombstone Marshal's Office (Virgil, Morgan and Wyatt Earp, John Henry "Doc" Holliday) -- U.S. marshall Virgil Earp

Cowboys (Ike and Billy Clanton, Tom and Frank McLaury, Billy Claiborne, Sheriff Johnny Behan) -- Ike Clanton

Virgil Earp requested that Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday support him and Morgan Earp in preparation for the gunfight. They were both deputized for the occasion. Wyatt spoke of his brothers Virgil and Morgan as the "marshals" while he acted as "deputy."

Virgil Earp was the Marshal of Tombstone on Oct 26, 1881, the date of the Gunfight at the OK Corral. The Wikipedia link for the gunfight labels him as such in fact, in the caption under his photo.
The link below details how he came to be Marshal:
link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virgil_Earp

In his capacity as marshal he deputized his brother Morgan for permanent special duty a month before the gunfight. He temporarily deputized his brother Wyatt and Doc Holliday just before the gunfight. (Members of quickly formed posses and the like were "temporarily" deputized to enable them to legally perform arrests and defend themselves.) Wyatt had previously served a short time as a Deputy Sheriff for a county that at that time included Tombstone, but he never held a permanent Tombstone City position. It was Johnny Behan who replaced Wyatt as County Deputy Sheriff when the post was contested by vote, breaking a promise of a job for Wyatt in exchange for bowing out, and this led to enmity between them.

Virgil Earp was also the Deputy U.S. Marshal for the Arizona Territory for the area including Tombstone at the time of the gunfight. After Virgil's wounding during an assassination attempt 2 months after OK Corral, both Wyatt and Morgan were named Deputy U.S. Marshals for the territory. Morgan was assassinated shortly thereafter.

First post here....struggling a bit with it.

Fourty years ago, I querried the Federal Archives concerning Wyatt being a US Marshal....I recieved many documents to prove it. Among them was one page from Crawly Dake stating "the other day, my Marshals killed three cowboy outlaws". This always led me to believe that all four of the lawman combatants were Marshals...including the boozing, gambling, whoreing, gun/knife fighter, "Doc" Holliday! BTW, Wyatt was listed as "acting town Marshal in Judge Spicer's court/inquest...and Virgil as Town Marshal....just like Datsmeharse has stated.
