This page thinks that the average weight of a grain of sugar is 0.2milligrams
There are approximately 28350 milligrams in an ounce.
Therefore - if my sums are right - there are around 141,750 grains in an ounce of sugar.
-----------
A grain of sugar weighs approximately 0.000625 grams according to this site

There are 31103 mg to an ounce, therefore if a grain has an average weight of 0.2 mg, there are 5 grains to the mg, therefore 155515 grains to the ounce :)
I just realised that I'm working on TROY Ounces and your (correct) conversion used MASS Ounces.
Now have an accurate assessment of the number of grains of suger in whatever ounce you wish to use ! lol

Here's another way of looking at it. A grain is a unit of weight just like the ounce and the pound. It is equivalent to 64.8 milligrams. There are 7000 grains to 1 lb (avoirdupois), and therefore 437.5 grains to 1 oz (avoirdupois).
"The grain is a very small unit which is the basis of all three Imperial weight systems, the avoirdupois, the troy and the apothecaries. It was originally the weight of a grain of wheat."
Thus there are 437.5 grains of sugar in an ounce of sugar. Indeed, there are 437.5 grains of anything (lead, feathers etc) in an ounce.
