The right lung is made up of three lobes, the left two, which is why it gets more air. You have two lungs, but they aren't the same size the way your eyes or nostrils are. Instead, the lung on the left side of your body is a bit smaller than the lung on the right. This extra space on the left leaves room for your heart.

NOTE: A little more than half the air travels through the right branch of the bronchi into the right lung. The right branch is called the right primary bronchus. The right lung is made up of three lobes which is why it gets more air. A little less than half of the air travels through the slightly narrower left branch of the bronchi into (left primary bronchus) the left lung. The left lung is made up of only two lobes.
