When I enjoy my favorite bag of David sunflower seeds, I notice that they all contain a few pieces of wood. What type of wood is this and why is it included?

The "wood" you are refering to might be the shell or hull.

it is parts of the stalk that were of the same weight as the kernels therefore the blowers did not blow them out of the product.. it sure won't hurt you...
