Where does the phrase, "Funny, he doesn't look Jewish" come from?

It's a famous Jewish joke, the one about how sometimes Jews don't share certain features with one's typical stereotype image of a Jew. The first time I heard the phrase I was 12, and then it was being told as the "oldest joke in the book".
