Hans Christian Andersen sustained serious injuries when he fell from his bed. He was cared for at the home of a friend but never fully recovered and died several months later.

He really did not specifically die from falling out of bed in 1872. He never really got over the effects of the fall and died in August 1875 of some natural causes. Specifically, he had liver cancer and died at the home of his friends the Melchiors.
