Why do Australians refer to underwear as "Reg Grundies"?

It comes from Reg Grundy, the Australian TV production outfit, and is so called because "Grundies" rhymes with "undies".

Rhyming slang for 'undies'. Reg Grundy was a very important figure in the early Australian TV industry. Reg is still with us at the age of 90.
Note that unlike some other rhyming slang, the second word is never omitted - so it's never "Reg's"
