TV Guide (U.K.), in 1974
TV Guide fears that if it does not adapt it will be left behind in the digital era (its circulation collapsed by 55% in 2006). So its online search engine will guide readers, not to user-generated video posted online by consumers, but to shows that are available on traditional television and for download through the internet. In 1974, TV Guide was the first magazine to sell a billion copies a year. If it can become the search engine of choice for online video the rewards could be almost as great.
