Gennady, also transliterated as Gennadiy, doesn't appear to have any direct English equivalent. It is the masculine Russian form of the Ancient Greek name Gennadius (Gennadios). There are Bulgarian, Georgian and Romanian equivalents with slight spelling differences. The shortened fform of the name is Gena or Genya. The female form is Gennadiya.
Gennadiy Tsygankov was on the ice hockey team that won Olympic gold in 1972 and 1976.
In an effort to determine its meaning, and so find possibly related names in English, I found a number of sites that seem to offer the meaning of the name, but they are rather descriptions from numerology of what the name predicts about the person's character, and not worth linking.

It's originally from the Greek, "gennadas" meaning "noble, generous".
