What does "Hello Somebody" mean when said in church?

When a preacher in certain Protestant Evangelical churches says this, he is trying to get a response from the congregation (probably an "Amen") that was expecting but did not receive. It's a way of saying, "Hey, wake up! Give me a response to show that I am reaching you!"
