I totally blew my first answer. Hungary once bordered the former USSR but now borders the Ukraine. I believe the correct answer is North Korea and Poland. The distance between them is 7672 km or 4767 miles. They share a border with Russia. Poland borders the Russian semi-exclave of Kaliningrad Oblast.

The distance between Hungary and North Korea is 7,991 km or 4,965 miles. They both share a border with Russia.

My first thought when I asked the question was Finland and North Korea, but surprisingly (to me anyway), Poland is over 900km further from N Korea than Finland.

Belgium and Brazil (ca. 9000 km apart) both border France as French Guiana is part of mainland France.

Of course, Wellenbrecher! Despite being well aware that Brazil has the longest border with France, it failed to cross my mind when I asked this.

gmackematix, I admit that my answer is a sort of academic and does not really reflect the idea of your question.

But how about this: Since France and Netherlands have a common border in the Caribbean (St. Martin/Sint Maarten), the correct answer to your question could technically be: Brazil - The Netherlands.
