"There are two father-son combinations in the roster of Secretaries of War: Simon Cameron (1861-1862) and James D. Cameron (1876-1877) and Alphonso Taft (1876) and William Howard Taft (1904-1908). Another secretary, Robert Todd Lincoln, was the son of a president, and George W. and William H. Crawford were cousins."
Alphonso Taft was Secretary of War under President Grant. His son, William Howard Taft was Secretary during Theodore Roosevelt's term. (The younger taft was later President and Chief Justice.) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Secretary_of_War
