Marcel Proust's 'A La Recherche Du Temps Perdu' (translated as Remembrance of Things Past) is the world's longest novel, according to Guinness World Records. The profoundly influential 13-volume work contains 9,609,000 characters, with each letter and space counting as one character.

Also found this one to confuse the issue. - The longest novel ever published: 'Les Hommes de Bonne Volonte' by Louis-Henri-Jean Farigoule (1885-1972), in 27 volumes.

Madeleine de Scudéry, Artamène
Published in 10 volumes from 1649–53. It contains 2.1 million words.

However this is the longest but was never published: Henry Darger: The Story of the Vivian Girls - Henry Joseph Darger (April 12[?], 1892–April 13, 1973) was a reclusive American writer and artist who worked as a janitor in Chicago, Illinois. He has become famous for his posthumously discovered 15,145-page fantasy manuscript called The Story of the Vivian Girls, in What is known as the Realms of the Unreal, of the Glandeco-Angelinnian War Storm, Caused by the Child Slave Rebellion, along with several hundred drawings and watercolor paintings illustrating the story.

In the Guinness Book of Records, the Marcel Proust novel "In Search Of Time: Proust 6-pack (Proust Complete)" is the longest novel. This novel is generally published in several volumes and is considered as a single novel.

World's longest novel is Nigel Tomm's "The Blah Story." The first nine volumes of "The Blah Story" contain 3,277,153 words; 16,220,507 characters (with spaces); 6580 pages. It is the longest novel published in English literature/language.

In 2007/2008 the name and the author of the longest novel have changed. From 2008, Nigel Tomm's novel "The Blah Story" is the world's longest novel ever. Nine volumes contain 3,277,153 words; 16,220,507 characters (with spaces); 6580 pages.
