Since 1922, Pulitzer Prizes have been awarded to cartoonists. The first being for EDITORIAL CARTOONING, Rollin Kirby of New York World 'On the Road to Moscow.'
On 5 August 1921, the New York World published Rollin Kirby’s (1875-1952) “On the Road to Moscow.” This was the first editorial cartoon to win a Pulitzer Prize. It was one of three Pulitzer Prize’s Kirby would win.

According to uexpress.com/corporate/ups Gary Trudeau was the fist cartoonist to win a Pulitzer Prize for Doonesbury in 1975.
Trudeau becomes the first comic strip artist to win the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning. The Editorial Cartoonists' Society passes a resolution condemning the Pulitzer Prize committee. Trudeau, assured the award is irrevocable, supports the resolution.
