How did the late great Buddy Holly's band 'The Crickets' get its name?

The story goes a little like this: Bands of that era commonly used names of insects as the groups' names. Jerry Allison, an original member of what was to become The Crickets, got the name when looking through a book about insects. Read the full story here:
