A street that's 30 yards long has a chestnut tree every 6 yards on both sides. How many chestnut trees are on the entire street?

I know the answer is 12 but if there are 6 on each side then there are more than one every 6 yards. You cannot count the first one as for one length of 6 yards there will be two trees which would negate the statement. The proper answer is 10 although it is generally accepted that the answer is 12.

The answer of 12 is correct. The trees are positioned 0 yards, 6 yards, 12 yards, 18 yards, 24 yards and 30 yards from the start of the street. At no point is there more than one tree every six yards.
