What does this popular phrase mean, "People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones?"

i agree with you kiwi about throwing stones in/at a glass house - but i always thought the saying also suggested that everyones lives are quite visible - there is always someone who knows what youve been up to - and therefore we should not be quick to condemn others.... just my thoughts... :)

My Mum had a saying that was that we are all qualified to bring up the neighbours children. What a pearl of wisdom that one has turned out to be.
