The dog's name was 'Queequeg'. Sorry don't remember the circumstances of his demise.

I haven't been able to find what happened to the dog in real life, but in the show, Queequeg was eaten by an alligator (some sites call it a Loch Ness-type monster) in an episode called 'Quagmire'. Queequeg was a Pomeranian, named after the cannabalistic character in Moby Dick.
