I once had this question at a quiz night, and the answer was said to be Perth.

If it's not Perth, I'll see if you'll accept the "wrong" answer that I gave on that night - Dunfermline.

Twas Scone prior to Dunfermline, so the answer you gave according to me was right but isn't that always the way in pub quizzes, you know the right answer but everyone disagrees.

This one is bothering me. A ton of websites have the order of capitals Scone-Perth-Edinburgh.

But Dunfermline also claims to have been the capital in there.

Does anyone have a clear progression of dates that explains how all these cities claims to being the capital make sense?
