1876 -- Ross Barnes of the Chicago White Stockings hits the first home run in Major League Baseball history in a game against the Cincinnati Red Stockings.

Ross Barnes of the Chicago White Stockings becomes the first National League player to hit a home run when he slugs a inside-the-park homer of Bill (Cherokee) Fisher of the Cincinnati Red Stockings at Cincinnati. The ball flew over the left fielder's head and into a row of horse-drawn carriages - may 2, 1876.
