Sorry in advance, but it gave me a laugh at the time, when we were in a science lesson we saw an old medical thermometer with a kink in the bottom.
I said it must be an anal thermometer as the kink was supposed to stop it falling out before the temperature had been taken properly!
Well, I was only 15 at the time....
(for the two/or one people who were wondering, the kink was actually to stop the mercury from pooling in the bulb end).
