An airline that is owned by a larger, more recognizable airline. Comair is a subsidiary of Delta Airlines, and American Eagle is a subsidiary of American Airlines.

It's an airline controlled by another airline. When control or ownership is not shared, it is termed a wholly owned subsidiary.
BTW- American Eagle is not owned American. Both AA & Eagle are wholly owned subsidiaries of AMR Corp.
