My brother did once with some gold rimmed non-microwavable plates. The gold started to 'explode' and came on fire. I suppose with normal plates they would crack or burn.

I had some plastic plates in college. I wasn't sure if they were microwavable or not, so of course I microwaved them. They cracked. Then my idiot friends used a bowl when I wasn't home, AFTER I'd said the plates weren't microwavable (they were from the same set), then we couldn't have cereal in those bowls after that...

Blue sparks fly from the microwave...
I was once cooking something, and it said in the recipe book "place on warm plate". I hadn't read this far down when I began cooking, and my food was nearly ready, so I decieded that it would be quicker to warm it in the micorwave. However, after about 20 seconds, blue sparks started flying from the microwave. I was terrified, convinced the micorwave would blow up!
