The RMI stands for "Railway Mechanics Institute". The club was founded in 1896 and was known as Horwich RMI FC until 1995 when it moved to Leigh and became Leigh RMI. The club was one of two founded at the locomotive building works of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway in Horwich. Horwich is in Greater Manchester, England. The club's name is now Leigh Genesis FC.
