Why is sandwich meat circular when the bread is square?

On a practical level, most tins are circular in section. (OK, corned beef and sardines aren't.) It's probably cheaper to make them round. If you buy your sandwich meat from a deli, you'll find you can buy it square. But then again, some bread is square and some is oblong..... They keep trying to market square eggs, but don't seem to be getting anywhere. Porbebly animal cruelty people objecting...

You can hard boil a round egg square if you're careful.
I'm with deja. Different ways of making them make different shapes. Then there are places where they slice the meat for you, and it's just irregular instead of any specific shape.
