Don't tell me someone has done an experiment and counted this! Although if they have, I hope the spelling in their report was better than some around here....

There are many many sites that all give the same answer to this but neglect to say where this information came from.
I'll give everyone a little longer to find it.

Sounds like this is one of those urban legends - or rather one of those things that one idiot prints and everyone copies, like the elephant being the only animal that can't jump....

200,000 is the fashionable answer to give for this one.
I supppose if the skin damage from each frown could be measured, the results could conceivably be extrapolated to give such a statistic. But then doesn't the duration of a frown matter? And doesn't the skin become less elastic as it ages making a frown more damaging to an older face than a young one?
It's a bit like that statistic that used to appear in a car advert saying that the average person had so many thoughts per day. I tracked this statistic down to the ad agency who said they had asked a number of psychologists to estimate how many thoughts we had in a day and took the mean of the results.

That's even less valid than the old statistic about it being safer to travel if you're not wearing underwear. Well, more than 98% of people in accidents are wearing underwear at the time....
