Which way do discs spin when being read by a computer?

i am pretty sure they spin counterclockwise

A CD (or DVD) rotates clockwise as seen from above the label. The spiral track of pits on the CD will have the same direction whether being read by a CD-player or a computer. The speed varies between about 500 rev/minute when reading the inner part of the track to about 200 revs/minute while reading the outer part.
I'm not sure about the magnetic discs in drives such as the hard drive as they do not work the same way.
