Is Dora's backpack a girl or boy, and is the Big Red Chicken a rooster or a hen, and why is it so big?

Dora's backpack is a girl! Dora refers to her as "chica" in 'Dora Dance to the Rescue' when she sneezes. And in 'Dora's Dance Adventure' she wears a flower while Map wears a bowtie. As for the Big Red Chicken, I believe he is a rooster. In 'Dora's World Adventure' he wears a tuxedo. Not sure why he is so big.
