I haven't seen this movie so it's difficult to say why. From the reviews, it appears to be one of many scenes to make people uneasy.

I believe the spider is there to show how we bypass (not cheat) death every day until it is our time. The people in this movie all cheated death, who hunts them down, in the exact order they are supposed to die.
