The Chipmunks; Alvin, Simon and Theodore; were named after executives at Liberty Records. This was where Ross Bagdasarian aka Dave Seville recorded his novelty hits such as "The Witch Doctor". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alvin_and_the_Chipmunks
Rather than waste a new thread, can anyone add when they changed the official name from the chipmunks to Alvin and the chipmunks- and they also appear to have undergone a revival from when I remember them in the 60s though they seem never to have gone away.
