normally you would not say a nip of beer , it would be a " half " or a " pint " of beer meaning a halfpint or pint of beer

it would be a " nip " of whisky you would ask for , normally this would be a pub measure of whisky if in a bar

thats what we would say in scotland anyway

The 7oz Budweiser is a "Nip". (recall them well from High School)

Little, itty-bitty beer-of-a-thing. Goes down fast and easy even though I do not relish Bud Beer.

This comes from the old english "nipperkin", or 1/8 of a pint. There is an old folk-song, whch sings the praises of gradually increasing measurs of beer, "nipperkin, gill, half-pint, pint pot, quart pot, half gallon. gallon, firkin, hogshead....."
