She was also called Aurora in the Walt Disney version which is probably taken from the name given to her in the ballet "The Sleeping Beauty" for which Tschaikovsky composed the music.

"Aurora" (French for "Dawn") was actually the daughter of Sleeping Beauty, who is not named as other than "The Princess" in Perrault's story. http://www.pitt.edu/~dash/perrault01.html

Her birth name is Aurora but when the 3 good fairies, Flora, Fauna and Merryweather keep her in the forest to hide her from Maleficent, the bad witch they name her Briar Rose to protect her identity as the princess.
