There was a song back in the early 60s or late 50s about a soldier coming home, that was sung by Fats Domino. Can anyone give me song's name?

Fats also sang "Christmas Gumbo" -- a version of "I'll Be Home for Christmas" as well.

"When my dreamboat comes home" may be the song you are thinking of - it was not a Fats Domino original, but his 1956 recording of the song reached #2 on the R&B charts.
Written in 1936, it is not in the era of any specific war, and the lyrics do not specifically state where "dreamboat" was "coming home" from. However it was popular during WW2, and for many signified the expectation of loved ones returning home from war. http://www.preterhuman.net/texts/lyrics_and_music_related/unsorted_lyrics/when_my_dreamboat_comes_home.txt

He did When The Saints Go Marching In with Louis Armstrong
Closest I can get to it is "When My Dreamboat Comes Home" which is usually sung by a woman, and seems to relate to a returning soldier. If this is it, I have it.
