A capillary is basically a fine tube with thick walls that attracts liquids it comes in contact with. Capillary contact generally measures how many of these tubes are touching an object. It is often measured in anatomy. For instance: A study on muscle fatigue would measure the ratio of how many capillary contacts there were per muscle fiber. It is also measured in geology for things such as crystal formation, and in manufacturing things such as carpet.
