Johnny Cash once mentioned that he wanted to record 'Walk of Life' by Dire Straits, but did he ever record it? And is he the 'Johnny' the song is referring to?

As far as I can tell, there hasn't been any official recording of Walk of Life. The Johnny would be a reference to former Beatle, John Lennon, who did sing I Got a Woman and Be-Bop-a-Lua, before the Beatles became famous.
