Was the bandsaw really invented for cutting meat, as stated by Adam Savage?

Band saws were originally designed to cut boards from raw
tree stock in wood mills.

Have no reference for this.

Agreeing with Monkey, I doubt they were originally designed to cut meat. Its history is found under woodworking tools.

That said, bandsaws are certainly used to cut meat; we have one for that purpose ourselves.
