I will assume that it is part of a storyline in Potter. Running into the wall that is.

In the story, it's referred to as a 'barrier', which prior to the refurbishment of many stations which includes little buildings occupying all the sapace not absolutely necessary for passengers to actually get on and off the platforms was usually an openwork metal affair. I think that wall is actually intended to be a place for visitors to read about 9 3/4 rather than being the actual barrier, which would be found by following the arrows through the doorwaytp Platforms 9-11. I must look next time I'm on Kings Cross, which isn't one of my most frequented stations.
