The traditional trophy “Victoria” vanished during WWII. As a result, the first post war champion did not receive a cup in 1948 (there were two war related breaks in history from 1915 to 1919 and 1945 to 1947). In 1949 the current trophy was inaugurated. The people just call it “Salad Bowl” or simply “the ugliest bowl in the world”. Oddly, in the early 90s the old Victoria was found in a coal basement in the territory of the former East Germany. It was repaired and today the winner gets two trophies.

1st FC Cologne wins the first Federal League soccer championship!
While a Sunday roast is traditional in German households, Saturdays revolve around the "Salad Bowl" - at least in the football stadiums. Not that the nation's suddenly got into healthy eating. On 24 August 1963 the five regional divisions are fused into a single national league - for some significantly superior soccer.
