Depending on what you call Zaire, there are either two or three. Zaire, which has recently had new government has changed its name to the Republic of Congo or something of that nature. If that is the official name then the only two African countries to begin with the letter Z are Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Zaire (spelled Zaïre in French) was the name of the Democratic Republic of the Congo between October 27, 1971, and May 17, 1997 when the violence in Rwanda spilled over into the country and Laurent-Desire Kabila, named himself president, consolidated power around himself and the AFDL, and reverted the name of the country to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
