Zav and Zavah are states of ritual impurity in Judaism arising from abnormal bodily discharge; for men the state is termed zav, and for women it is termed zavah.

Mainly has to do with the secretion of dead cells from the human body. Specifically semen in men and blood in women.

In modern day Hebrew the word "zav" is still used to describe secretion of bodily matter: "zav dam" means "bleeding" and "zav khotem" means "has running nose" (also used as a derogatory term for a good-for-nothing) and "ziva" means "syphilis".
