In chess does the loser always play white or do the sides switch regardless every game?

"In a friendly game, colors are usually decided by chance. A coin flip is always possible : 'Heads you get White' -or- 'Heads you choose your color'.

An old favorite is when one player hides a White Pawn in one fist, a Black Pawn in the other. The other player picks a hand and gets the pieces with the color of the Pawn concealed in that hand.

After the first game, the players should alternate colors.

In a tournament, the director will specify who plays which color."
