... The phone number had been flashed up on screen several times as the Doctor's companions Sarah Jane Smith, Martha Jones and the Torchwood team contacted him. Apparently 2,500 fans dialled the number before the last episode aired on Saturday. One fan moaned to the Daily Wail that they showed the number, 07700 900 461, so many times that the Beeb must have wanted people to call it . TV industry watchdog, Ofcom said it would not be trying to exterminate anyone for showing the phone number. The number was one that was allocated to producers for TV series by Ofcom, so Dr Who producers were right to use it.
