Is super swimmer Michael Phelps related to the well-known Baptist minister Fred Phelps?

Michael Phelps' father is named Fred Phelps, and the swimmer's middle name is "Fred," but there seems to be no relationship. "Phelps" is not an uncommon surname: some members of my own extended family bear it. I am, of course, a happy member in good standing of the Landover Baptist Church. I attend it regularly.
